“The real adventure consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in seeing with new eyes” – Proust
Most of our problems, individually and globally, stem from a single root cause: we have created a culture of disconnection. The story of how that happened is instructive. Over ten thousand years we have been altering the nature of our own intelligence. Bit by bit we have disconnected our consciousness from the attuned awareness of the body and contracted it into the confines of the cranium. Withdrawn from the body’s sensations, the thinker in the head discovered new powers of perspective, analysis and control. But what initially empowered us now holds us hostage: we all know what it is to feel trapped in our own skulls. We yearn to join the present, but cannot calm our circuitous, distracted thinking. Marooned from the currents of being, we can only try to out-think the world around us. It is an impossible enterprise that leaves us anxious, judgmental, isolated and restless.
In this presentation, Philip shows how empowering it is to look at our journey into disconnection directly. Once you see the assumptions it has quietly laid down, everything changes. New choices appear, enabling the hyper-vigilant intelligence in the head to soften out of its role of supervisor, and join the deeper, connected intelligence of the body. And because understanding can only be anchored by experience, Philip also guides participants through some simple, gentle exercises which bring to awareness a neglected resource in the body that is able to ground us in the clarity and ease of being present, and bring us back to our own wholeness.
